Upper Cervical Care
At Roots Chiropractic we use a very specific Chiropractic technique called Upper Cervical Specific Chiropractic. Upper Cervical Chiropractic care focuses on the top two bones of the neck, called atlas (C1) and axis (C2), which surround the brainstem. Some functions of the brainstem include heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, temperature, sleeping, eating, and much more. Every piece of information communicated between the brain and body must pass through the brainstem.
Upper Cervical Chiropractors utilize tools to know when, where, and how to adjust a client. At Roots Chiropractic we use x-rays to visualize and determine exactly how the vertebrae have moved. This allows the Doctor to be as specific as possible. Dr. Lauren does not want to guess with your care. You may think of the vertebra as a lock, the x-rays allow the Doctor to know exactly what adjustment, or key, should be used to open the lock. X-rays tell the doctor where and how to adjust a client.
Another tool Upper Cervical Chiropractors use is thermography. This is an FDA approved tool that evaluates the functioning of the nervous system. Thermography is able to evaluate the nervous system by reading deep heat beneath the skin, which is controlled by the brainstem. The balance of heat on each side of the spine is a relative indication of symmetry of the nervous system. An imbalance of heat from one side of the spine to the other, indicates an interference within the nervous system. Therefore, thermography tells a Chiropractor when to adjust. At Roots Chiropractic we use Tytron Thermography that utilizes infrared technology and does not use radiation.
After receiving an Upper Cervical Specific adjustment you will relax in a Zero-Gravity chair to rest. This allows the adjustment to hold longer, optimizing results. In our modern world, we are constantly on the move and bombarded with stress. This is the last thing we want you to return to immediately after receiving an adjustment. This may cause you to return to the state of stress you were experiencing before walking into the office. So kick your feet up in our Zero-Gravity chairs for a few minutes and relax after your adjustment.
The goal of care is to hold your adjustment so you do not need to come into the office as often to receive an adjustment. This is accomplished by specific adjustments, the objective measures mentioned above, and relaxing after your adjustment.
