If you're pregnant and considering chiropractic care, one of the first questions that comes up is simply: when should I start? The good news is the answer is flexible, but there are a few things worth understanding so you can make the timing work for you.

The straightforward answer: it's rarely too early or too late to start. Many women begin in their second trimester, but starting earlier can be beneficial. What matters most is getting care from a provider trained in prenatal chiropractic.

Starting Early in Pregnancy

There's a real case for starting in the first trimester or as soon as you know you're expecting. Beginning early lets your body adapt to the changes of pregnancy more gradually. It establishes a baseline, supports comfort before significant discomfort sets in, and helps your pelvis and spine stay balanced as your body begins to change.

Think of it as staying ahead of the discomfort rather than waiting until you're already struggling.

Starting in the Second Trimester

The second trimester is when many women first seek care, and it's a common and effective time to begin. By this point, your body has changed enough that the shifts in posture, weight distribution, and ligament looseness are noticeable. Care during this window helps manage the discomfort that tends to ramp up as your pregnancy progresses.

Starting in the Third Trimester

Even if you're well into your third trimester, it's not too late to benefit. Late pregnancy is when discomfort often peaks, and when supporting pelvic balance becomes especially relevant as your body prepares for birth. Starting now can still help you stay more comfortable and mobile through the home stretch.

Why Pelvic Balance Matters as You Approach Birth

Throughout pregnancy, and especially toward the end, keeping your pelvis balanced and your spine moving well supports your comfort and gives your body the space it needs to function. When the muscles and ligaments around the pelvis aren't under uneven tension, your body is better positioned for the demands of labor and delivery.

This is the focus of the Webster Technique, a specific prenatal chiropractic method aimed at supporting pelvic balance. At Roots Chiropractic, both Dr. Lauren Wood and Dr. Michael Wood are Webster certified, with dedicated training in prenatal care.

What Your Care Looks Like

Whenever you start, your first visit includes a consultation and a thorough assessment so we understand your history and your pregnancy. We use INSiGHT nervous system scans to see where tension and stress are showing up, and we build a personalized care plan from there. Everything is adapted to your body and your comfort.

The Best Time Is When You're Ready

If pregnancy discomfort is already wearing on you, the best time to start is now. If you're early and feeling fine, starting early can help you stay that way longer. Either way, if you're in East Mesa or the Gilbert area, we'd love to support you through your pregnancy.
